Epileptology is a clinical subspecialty of neurology that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of seizures, epilepsy and related diseases. These conditions may arise from a wide variety of genetically determined, developmental, or otherwise-acquired brain disorders such as tumors, strokes, traumatic injuries, infections, metabolic disorders, systemic inflammatory diseases and toxic states. Physicians in the Department of Neurology treat a variety of epileptic cases, and also work in TTP El Paso’s Epilepsy Clinic, which offers inpatient and outpatient EEG services and Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS) placement.
