The Department of Neurology at Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso provides expert diagnosis and treatment for disorders affecting the brain, nerves, and muscles. Our neurologists care for patients with conditions including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, headaches, dementia, neuropathy, and neuromuscular disorders, supported by advanced diagnostic testing. Through compassionate care, innovative research, and physician training, Texas Tech Health El Paso is advancing neurological health for the Borderplex communities we serve.

Neurology Patient Care

Texas Tech Health El Paso's Department of Neurology provides evaluation and care for adults with neurological conditions. Our clinic works with patients, families and referring health care providers to coordinate appointments and determine the appropriate level of care.

A referral is required before an appointment can be scheduled. Referral information is reviewed to determine medical urgency and provider availability.

 

Referral and Appointment Process

All referrals are reviewed to determine how urgently the patient should be seen. Urgent referrals may receive a priority appointment. Non-urgent referrals are scheduled for the next available appointment based on provider availability.

The information included with the referral helps the clinical team determine the appropriate priority. Referring providers should clearly explain the reason for the referral and include relevant medical information.

Information required with a referral

To help prevent delays, the referring provider should submit:

1. Reason for the referral (must include diagnosis or the question that the PCP expects us to resolve)
2. All past medical records
3. Any studies done to back up diagnosis (particularly MRI or CT SCANs); should be brought in prior to the first appointment
4. Medication list (must be included)
5. Name of patient, date of birth, insurance information. and patient’s phone number

After the referral is reviewed

A clinic staff member will contact the patient regarding the status of the referral and appointment. Because appointment availability varies, the clinic may not be able to provide an exact scheduling timeframe when the referral is first received.

When an insurance authorization is required, the clinic must receive the approved authorization before an appointment can be scheduled.

Patients should confirm that the required referral and insurance authorization have been received before traveling to the clinic.

Services Not Provided

The Department of Neurology does not provide:

• Pediatric neurology services.
• Medical opinions for legal cases.
• Workers' compensation evaluations.
